Planning

How does Dinner Buddy work out the times?

It starts at the time you want to eat and works backward through every step of every dish: how long each takes, what temperature it needs, and what it's cooked in. Then it fits the steps around what your kitchen actually has, so two dishes never need the same oven at different temperatures or the same burner at once.

It says two dishes clash. What do I do?

Tap the warning to see the fixes, such as moving a dish to the slow cooker, cooking it at the oven's temperature for a little longer, or making it the day before. Pick one and the plan updates. You can also edit the dish yourself.

My kitchen is different from the plan.

Open Settings, then My Kitchen, and set your ovens and racks, burners and other appliances. Every upcoming dinner is replanned around them.

Can I add my own recipes?

Yes. In Add a Dish, choose Start from scratch, give it steps, times, temperatures and ingredients, and it's saved to My Dishes for every dinner after. You can also save your edited version of any starter dish from its page.

Can I switch to Celsius?

Yes, in Settings. Temperatures show in °F until you change it.

Cook Day

I'm not getting alerts.

  1. Cook Day alerts come with the unlock. In the app's Settings, check that it says Dinner Buddy is unlocked and that Cook day alerts is on.
  2. On your iPhone, open Settings, then Notifications, then Dinner Buddy, and make sure Allow Notifications and Time Sensitive Notifications are on.
  3. Alerts are set when you start Cook Day, so open Cook Day once on the day.

I'm running late.

In the Timeline tab, tap Running Late and choose how far behind you are. Everything after that point shifts. If dinner itself needs to move, Dinner Buddy tells you by how much.

How do I add the widgets?

Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Dinner Buddy. Widgets come with the unlock.

Purchases

What does the unlock include?

Every dish and every dinner with no limits, Cook Day alerts and the Lock Screen countdown, widgets, PDFs to print or share, saved plans for next year and unlimited My Dishes. It's a single purchase, not a subscription.

I bought it on another device, or reinstalled the app.

Open Settings in Dinner Buddy and tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. With Family Sharing on, others in your family group get it too.

Can I get a refund?

Apple handles payments and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

Will I lose my dinners if I get a new phone?

Your dinners and dishes are saved on your device and included in your iPhone's regular iCloud or computer backup. Restoring a new phone from that backup brings them along.
